Summary
The New York delegation to the Democratic National Convention (August 25-28 in Denver) comprises the following:
- 151 District-Level Delegates
- 51 At-Large Delegates
- 30 Party Leaders/Elected Officials
- 19 Democratic National Committee members*
- 25 Members of Congress*
- 1 Democratic Governor
- 2 Distinguished Party Leader
- 4 At-Large Unpledged
- (39 District-Level and At-Large Alternates)

*Rep. Gregory Meeks is both a member of Congress and a DNC member, and gets one vote; Gov. David Paterson is both a Democratic Governor and a DNC member, and gets one vote.
PLEDGED DELEGATES
These 232 Delegate slots were assigned based on the results of the February 5th Presidential Primary. They are each pledged to support one of the two Presidential candidates.
District-Level Delegates: 151

The majority of our voting delegation was elected, by name, during the Presidential Primary on February 5th. Voters in each of New York's 29 Congressional Districts elected 5 or 6 Delegates (depending on the size and Democratic performance of the district).
Winning District-Level Delegates were chosen based on the Primary results: Democratic Presidential candidates were allocated delegate slots based on the proportion of the vote they (the Presidential candidates) received in each Congressional District. These slots were then filled by Delegates pledged to the Presidential candidate, starting with the highest vote-getter among candidates for Delegate, in a way that ensured gender parity.
At-Large Delegates: 51

51 Delegate slots were allocated based on the state-wide results from the February 5th Primary. These were allocated proportionally, by translating the same system of allocation from the District-Level Delegates to the state-wide vote totals for the two Presidential candidates.
The slots were assigned during the Spring Business meeting of the NYDems on May 1st, by election of the State Committee.
Party Leaders/Elected Officials (PLEO): 30

30 Delegate slots were allocated based on the state-wide results from the February 5th Primary. These were allocated proportionally, by translating the same system of allocation from the District-Level Delegates to the state-wide vote totals for the two Presidential candidates.
The slots were assigned during the Spring Business meeting of the NYDems on May 1st, by election of the State Committee. They were filled by Democratic Elected Officials and Party Leaders.
UNPLEDGED DELEGATES ("SUPERDELEGATES")
These 46 Delegates are granted a vote by virtue of their position. They are not required to pledge themselves to any candidate, and may switch who they support at any point before the vote at the Convention.

The 39 Alternates were selected based on the results of the February 5th Presidential Primary, and will attend the National Convention as part of New York's delegation. If a Delegate is unable to vote, an Alternate will take his or her place. Alternates are pledged to support one of the two Presidential candidates.

In 25 of New York's 29 Congressional Districts, an alternate was elected, by name, during the Presidential Primary on February 5th, in a way that ensured gender parity. The winning alternate was the one who had pledged to support the Presidential Candidate that received the most votes in that Congressional District.
