State Democrats are urging JP Morgan to not take advantage of the U.S. Supreme Court’s striking down of campaign-finance laws that many observers believe will open the floodgates of political advertising.

Democratic Committee Chairman Jay Jacobs sent a letter today to JP Morgan urging the bank to not fund a stealth advertising campaign for Republican Rick Lazio. Democrats have not failed to point out this summer that Lazio, a former Suffolk County congressman, worked for the bank before and after the meltdown on Wall Street. He is currently on leave while he runs for governor against Democrat Andrew Cuomo.

In the letter to JP Morgan, Jacobs sites the Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission, a Supreme Court ruling that ultimately struck many provisions from the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance law.
