“Since Senate Republicans regained the Majority, they have backed away from their campaign promise to support independent redistricting so fast, they have given New Yorkers whiplash. During the 2010 elections, all 32 Senate Republicans pledged to support independent redistricting, yet now, not a single one of them has the courage to keep their promise. The blatant hypocrisy displayed by Senate Republicans is a slap in the face to every New Yorker who was led to believe in a promise the GOP has now said they will not keep. Today the Democratic Party sent the 32 bottles of “Truth Juice” to the GOP Senate members in the hopes that they come clean with the people of New York State and follow through on their promise to support independent redistricting.”

“We cannot let the Senate GOP back away from their pledge to pass independent redistricting and they must live up to their commitments to New Yorkers. This State needs independent redistricting now to have even-handed elections and to restore the public trust in the political system. Republicans now are attempting to hide behind a purposeful misreading of the Constitution to avoid keeping the promise they made to voters.”

"If Senate Republicans think that New Yorkers will go along with their campaign-promises-are-made-to-be-broken approach to governing, they're in for a rude awakening.  Hopefully, Republicans will take a swig of "Truth Juice" and stand up for again and be honest about the need for independent redistricting."
