NYS DEMS LAUNCH: ROAD TO 1000 DEMOCRATIC IDEAS FOR A NEW NY AGENDA
New York, NY

Ideas and proposals will be gathered from New Yorkers across the state to build on Cuomo-Duffy New NY Agenda

Charlie King, Bill Thompson, and others kick-off statewide Democratic roadtrip this Sunday

Today, New York State Democrats kicked off the "Road to a 1000 Democratic Ideas," a new statewide effort to reach out to everyday New Yorkers for their ideas for improving New York government and solving the serious challenge facing the state.  The most innovative, original, and compelling solutions will be passed along to Andrew Cuomo and Robert Duffy, who will consider including them as part of their New NY Agenda. Last week, Cuomo and Duffy released a second policy book, titled Power NY, which included detailed proposals to promote green energy technology in order to create new jobs and reduce energy prices for residents.

NYS Democratic leaders Jay Jacobs (Chair), Charlie King (Exec. Dir.), and June O'Neill (Chair, Exec. Comm.) along with other prominent Democratic leaders will be making stops in communities across the state to visit with voters and to solicit their ideas for addressing New York's challenges.

Kick-off events will take place this Sunday in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx.  In addition to hearing from New Yorkers directly at events throughout the state, New York residents will be able to submit their ideas by visiting www.nydems.org/1000ideas.

"As Democrats, we understand that the best answers to our state's toughest challenges come from New Yorkers who face those challenges on a daily basis.  That's what the Road to 1000 Democratic ideas is all about:  making sure that Cuomo's New NY Agenda continues to build on the very best ideas out there," said former NYC Comptroller Bill Thompson, who will be attending the Brooklyn kick-off.

"New York is blessed with the most resourceful citizens of any state in the country.  I am thrilled that the Democratic Party is going on the road, asking ordinary New Yorkers in communities across the state to share their wisdom for creating jobs and making Albany work.  It's a tremendous example for the type of inclusive, participatory government that's possible in New York," said Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, who will be hosting the Brooklyn kick-off.

"A Democratic victory this November depends not only on filling New Yorkers in on our plans, but on hearing their concerns and learning from their experiences.  That's what this statewide initiative will do, and it's why I'm proud to be part of it," said Senator Eric Adams, who will be attending the Brooklyn kick-off.

"Elected officials certainly don't have a monopoly on good ideas.  By tapping old-fashioned New York ingenuity, we can address our state's hardest challenges and help lift up all our communities, both upstate and down," said Assemblyman Keith Wright, who will be hosting the Manhattan kick-off.

"Too often in politics, no one asks the people who face the problems how to solve them.  Whether it's providing health care or improving schools, creating jobs or making Albany work, people on the ground have extraordinary insight into the challenges facing our state.  I applaud the New York State Democratic Committee for seeking out voices that don't always get heard, and leaving no stone unturned in the search for the best solutions to our state's challenges," said Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, who will be hosting the Bronx kick-off.
