New Polling Shows Lee Zeldin Trailing By Double Digits In NY Gubernatorial Race
Polls Show Governor Hochul Up An Average of 15 Points
NEW YORK, NY - Newly released polling from Emerson College, the AFL-CIO, and Data for Progress show Governor Kathy Hochul with dominant, double-digit leads against Lee Zeldin. The poll results reflect Governor Hochul’s ability to motivate New Yorkers on the most pressing issues, including protecting reproductive rights, fighting for commonsense gun safety legislation, and combating extremism.
Data for Progress founder Sean McElwee highlighted voters' confidence in Governor Hochul: “Voters trust her on abortion and healthcare. Inflation Reduction Act and student debt relief both double digit support among New Yorkers.”
Here are the highlights from the three recent polls:
- Emerson College/Pix11/The Hill: The survey of New York voters conducted Sept. 4-6 showed Hochul leads Zeldin 50% to 35%. Eighty percent of New York voters agree that access to abortion should be legal in the third trimester, either always allowed (30%) or allowed if there is risk to the mother’s life (50%).
- AFL CIO/Public Policy Polling: The poll of 510 likely voters conducted Sept. 8-9 showed Hochul leading Zeldin 54% to 39%. Mario Cilento, President of the New York State AFL-CIO, commented, “Our poll confirms what anyone paying attention already knows; Governor Hochul is delivering for hardworking New Yorkers, and the Governor is in a strong position for victory in November.”
- Data for Progress: In a poll conducted Sept. 9-13 online and via text message, 52% of likely voters said they’ll vote for Hochul, while 39% said they’ll vote for Lee Zeldin. As Data for Progress founder Sean McElwee noted, “Voters trust her on abortion and healthcare.” City & State wrote, “Any single poll should be taken with a grain of salt, but reviewed together, recent public polling for the Nov. 8 election suggests that Hochul maintains a comfortable lead over Zeldin.”
