RELEASE: Lee Zeldin Doubles Down on his Anti-Choice Stance
For Immediate Release: April 27, 2022
NEW YORK, NY: As Republican governors across the country continue to attack the right to choose, Lee Zeldin made it clear that his administration would do everything in their power to overturn New Yorkers' constitutional right to make decisions about their own health and body. Tonight, Lee Zeldin is joining the New York State Right to Life Party at a town hall, doubling down on his anti-choice stance. This trend isn’t new for Zeldin, who has repeatedly supported measures to restrict reproductive rights:
- In 2015, Zeldin co-sponsored and voted for an abortion ban that would prohibit abortions in cases where the probable age of the fetus is 20 weeks or later.
- In 2017, Zeldin voted for the American Health Care Act which reduced abortion coverage, defunded planned parenthood, and would impose a nationwide ban on private insurance coverage of abortion.
- In 2020, Zeldin joined House Republicans calling on the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and joined an amicus brief demanding the court overturn the Supreme Court’s decision.
“New York Democrats will always protect the right to choose and ensure access to reproductive health care,” said James Martin, spokesman for the NYS Democratic Party. “Lee Zeldin has spent his entire political career attacking this constitutional right and his record shows just how much is at stake for New Yorkers in this election.”
