Sounding the Alarm on Lee Zeldin and his Anti-Choice Agenda

For Immediate Release: May 4, 2022

NEW YORK, NY: Yesterday’s news that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights in a draft opinion is a grave warning for our state and our nation. This decision sounds the alarm on a dark future where women do not have the right to control their own bodies – a future that will become a reality unless we get to work.

Republicans will stop at nothing to strip away health care and basic rights, and in New York, that threat has been made abundantly clear by anti-choice gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin.

In Congress, Zeldin backed a bill that would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks, voted to defund Planned Parenthood, and joined Republicans in an amicus brief demanding the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade

Just last week, Zeldin said it’d be a "great idea" to have a pro-life health commissioner in New York and assured anti-abortion advocates they’d have an "open-door" to his administration.

"With Roe v. Wade hanging in the balance, these are no longer empty threats; we need a governor who will protect the right to choose and ensure New York continues to be a place that will guarantee the right to abortion to anyone who needs one," said Executive Committee Chair Christine Quinn. "Make no mistake, now is the time to fight to protect our Democratic majority and elect Governor Kathy Hochul this November. Reproductive freedom is on the line."
