Tonight’s NY GOP Primary Debate to Feature Far-Right Extremism, Conspiracy Theories, Infighting
For Immediate Release: June 21, 2022
NEW YORK, NY: Tonight, the leading New York Republican candidates for governor will face off in a third primary debate on Newsmax, a far-right conservative news network. Lee Zeldin, Andrew Giuliani, Rob Astorino, and Harry Wilson will be given a platform to display the same dangerous far-right extremism that has defined their chaotic primary.
The candidates will once again continue to attack each other as they race-to-the-right and attempt to prove their loyalty to Donald Trump. Almost all the candidates have embraced the disgraced former president's platforms by taking extreme stances on gun control, threatening abortion rights, and promising to bring the national GOP's anti-LGBTQ agenda to New York.
Their messages on the debate stage and campaign trail have proven time and again to be completely out of touch with New York voters, and with a direct line to far-right viewers, they are sure to espouse the same extremism that promises to take New York backward.
"The leading candidates are fear-mongering extremists and have no qualifications to be governor of New York," said New York State Democrats Spokesperson James Martin, "Instead of addressing the issues New Yorkers really care about, tonight's debate will be all about promoting dangerous far-right conspiracy theories just to rile up their base."
