New York’s Vulnerable House Republicans Vote to Restrict Abortion Access for Servicemembers and Military Families

New York, NY- Today, New York House Republicans broke their campaign promises and voted for legislation restricting reproductive healthcare for servicemembers and military families.

“Today, New York’s vulnerable House Republicans once again rubber-stamped the extreme MAGA Republican agenda,” said Jay S. Jacobs, Chair of New York State Democratic Party. “After telling voters that abortion was a state’s rights issue on the campaign trail, New York House Republicans caved to the extreme wing of their party to deny servicemembers and military families access to vital healthcare. Promises made, promises broken.”

Vulnerable Reps. Marc Molinaro, Mike Lawler, Anthony D’Esposito, George Santos, Andrew Garbarino and Nick Lalota all voted to restrict abortion access for servicemembers and military families.

REMINDER: These so-called moderates have repeatedly voted for and

co-sponsored legislation to restrict access to abortion and reproductive healthcare for New Yorkers.

  • Every freshman New York Republican backed legislation that not only spewed misinformation about abortion, but actually INCREASED barriers to abortion care.
  • At the beginning of this Congress, every freshman New York Republican voted to punish doctors for providing reproductive care.
    • The bill could also deprive New York parents of holding their infants in medical distress and take away options for medical intervention.
  • House Republicans - including Brandon Williams - are supporting legislation that would overturn New York law requiring abortion coverage in private health insurance plans.
  • The Republican Study Committee - whose members include Nick LaLota and Brandon Williams - have endorsed plans to ban abortion completely at the federal level.
