Statement from NYS Democratic Chairman on Martin Luther King Jr. and Legacy

NASSAU COUNTY, NY: New York State Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs has released the following statement:

"While we must celebrate the progress MLK and his legacy has attained, we need to understand how much more needs to be done. There continues to be systemic inequality and injustice that permeates society – in housing, education, healthcare, justice, and the economy. While the journey for justice and equality undoubtedly continues, we can take solace that 'the arc of history is long but it bends towards moral justice' as long as we continue the hard and noble work of Dr. Martin Luther King."

Statement from NYS Democratic Chairman on President Biden's and Vice President Harris' Leadership on Voting Rights

NASSAU COUNTY, NY: New York State Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs has released the following statement:

"Today, President Biden and Vice President Harris doubled down on their unshakeable commitment to defending Americans’ right to vote and ensuring that every election is free, fair, and secure. As President Biden has said, the battle for the soul of America is a fight we will win, and we are proud to stand with him as he continues to fight for Americans’ fundamental right to vote in the face of Republican obstructionism. Here in New York, we know firsthand the stakes of this fight as we’ve seen Republican lawmakers shamelessly try to pass restrictive voter legislation because they know they cannot win on the merits of their ideas..."

Statement from NYS Democratic Chairman on Commemorating the Police Officers who Died During the January 6th Insurrection at the Capitol

NASSAU COUNTY, NY: New York State Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs has released the following statement:

"In commemorating the fallen police officers who died defending our Democracy on January the 6th, we must recognize that still today – perhaps even more so – our Democracy is at risk.  Whether we remain a Democracy or devolve into fascist state remains, unfortunately, an open question.  Every citizen and especially every elected official must decide where they stand..."

Statement from NYS Democratic Chairman on the NYS GOP

NASSAU COUNTY, NY: New York State Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs has released the following statement:

"The NYS GOP’s Social Media accounts recently employed a Euphemism that means 'F*** Joe Biden'.  Not only is this political rhetoric distasteful and a bad example to set for our children, but it will only serve to worsen our already too toxic political environment.  State Political organizations need to lead by encouraging the exchange of ideas, not by promoting hateful speech.  But then again, this is the same State Republican Party that did not condemn the January 6th insurrection that has caused the death of multiple police officers by Trump loyalists."

Statement from NYS Democratic Chairman on the Legacy of James Gustafson

NASSAU COUNTY, NY: New York State Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs has released the following statement:

"Jim Gustafson will sorely be missed. As both a County Chair and a State Committee Member, Jim was a tireless advocate for the people of Tompkins County and a leader in democratic politics. He was also a friend to many – to know Jim was to like him. He was a constant presence in our State Party and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time."

Statement from NYS Democratic Chairman on Gubernatorial Race

NASSAU COUNTY, NY: New York State Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs has released the following statement:

"I supported Tish James in her quest to become Attorney General in 2018 because I saw in her something unique for someone in political life - she genuinely put the Democratic Party over her own interests and had a deep and genuine concern for what was best for the people of our state. She has demonstrated that, once again, with her decision today. She united Democrats for the sake of the Party, which she again put over her own interests. I admire Tish James and look forward to working with her in her re-election for Attorney General."

IT’S A BIG DEAL: House Passes President Biden’s Build Back Better Act

The Build Back Better Act will cut costs for families, create jobs, and keep the economic recovery going. In response, New York State Democratic Party Chair Jay S. Jacobs released the following statement:

"President Biden and Democrats took a monumental step to once again deliver for the middle class. No thanks to a single Republican in the House, the Build Back Better Act will lower costs for working families, create good-paying jobs, and cut taxes — all without adding a cent to the debt. These investments are exactly what Americans voted for when they took to the polls to elect President Biden, and the United States Senate should move quickly to get President Biden’s Build Back Better Act across the finish line.”

Statement from NYS Democratic Chairman on Brian Benjamin

SHANDAKEN, NY: New York State Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs has released the following statement:

"Governor Hochul’s decision to select State Senator Brian Benjamin as her Lieutenant Governor is a wise one for New York. Raised in a union household, Senator Benjamin understands the vital importance of organized labor to middle-class families and has also been a leader in providing affordable housing and job training to the residents in his community. Senator Benjamin’s relationships in the state legislature and his longstanding community ties in downstate New York will greatly supplement Governor Hochul and immediately assist her administration with the priorities she laid out yesterday."
