New York’s Vulnerable House Republicans Vote to Restrict Abortion Access for Servicemembers and Military Families

"Today, New York House Republicans broke their campaign promises and voted for legislation restricting reproductive healthcare for servicemembers and military families.

“Today, New York’s vulnerable House Republicans once again rubber-stamped the extreme MAGA Republican agenda,” said Jay S. Jacobs, Chair of New York State Democratic Party. “After telling voters that abortion was a state’s rights issue on the campaign trail, New York House Republicans caved to the extreme wing of their party to deny servicemembers and military families access to vital healthcare. Promises made, promises broken.”

    Statement on Recent SCOTUS Rulings

"The Supreme Court has once again demonstrated their commitment to a radical MAGA agenda that tramples over the rights of all Americans. Make no mistake: we are in this situation because of Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell, who cynically hijacked our top court to achieve their extremist aims.

New York Democrats are united in our commitment to equal rights, diversity and the rule of law. While the Supreme Court strikes down laws protecting LGBTQ+ rights, we stand strongly in support of equality. When they strike down affirmative action, we double down on building a more inclusive society. When they overturn President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan, we will continue fighting to make college more affordable for all.

New York House Republicans Stand With Serial Liar George Santos, Vote to Protect Indicted Criminal

Today, New York House Republicans voted to protect serial liar George Santos from expulsion – despite calling on him to resign.

“Today, New York House Republicans voted to protect George Santos’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Jay S. Jacobs, Chair of the New York State Democratic Party. “Many of these Republicans have gone so far as to publicly call on Santos to resign or even be expelled from the halls of Congress. But, when push came to shove, these MAGA extremists fell in line with GOP party leadership, sided with an indicted criminal, and broke their promises to the Long Islanders who deserve representation. Shame on them. They are simply a collection of frauds.”

Let's finish the job," said Governor Kathy Hochul.

Chairman Jay S. Jacobs Releases Statement Urging GOP Reps. To Force Floor Vote on Santos' Expulsion From Congress

New York, NY - "It is unacceptable and unconscionable that Kevin McCarthy allowed George Santos to receive a classified briefing on China today. George Santos is a legitimate and objective security concern as described by the Director of National Intelligence’s Adjudicative Guidelines concerning personal conduct, financial considerations, psychological conditions, and criminal conduct.

Kevin McCarthy must allow a floor vote on the bill cosponsored by Representatives Goldman and Torres to expel Santos from Congress. If McCarthy blocks this measure from being considered, then every GOP Rep. from NY who has called on Santos to resign has an obligation to make a motion to vacate the chair. If these New York Republicans fail to act, then they are placing their party over country and failing their constituents, thereby endangering the security of our nation."

Chairman Jay S. Jacobs Releases Statement on New York Young Republican Gala

New York, NY - "Why was George Santos a prominent guest this past Saturday at a New York Republican “Iconic Event” that featured members of a far-right Austrian neo-Nazi group; a conspiracy theorist who, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center has “demonstrable ties to Neo-Nazis”; a Congresswoman who believes 9/11 was perpetrated by George W. Bush, and forest fires were started by Jewish “space lasers”; and a man who ran a website that featured articles entitled “Bill Kristol: Republican Soldier, Renegade Jew” and “Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy”?

It was bad enough that Gavin Wax and the New York Republicans hosted these dangerous and fringe figures from around the country in Manhattan; what’s worse is that Marjorie Tylor Greene claimed that she would have been able to violently overthrow the United States Government had she led the January 6th Insurrection.  That is sedition. Thankfully, many of the most fringe attendees weren’t from New York; however soon-to-be Congressman George Santos was in attendance.  Santos, who once bragged about paying the legal fees for January 6th insurgents, must immediately and forcefully denounce and reject the seditious statements voiced by Marjorie Taylor Greene.  Failing to act here would be to implicitly condone sedition."

Chairman Jay S. Jacobs Releases Statement on Hakeem Jeffries Historic Election to House Minority Leader

We congratulate Hakeem Jeffries on his historic election to House Minority Leader. Everyone who has had the pleasure of working with Rep. Jeffries knows what a passionate, thoughtful, and the decent person he is. The skillsets Leader Jeffries possesses will serve all Americans well. We will be forever indebted to Nancy Pelosi for her leadership. It is reassuring to know that the House Democratic Caucus will not skip a beat with Rep. Jeffries at the helm.

Chairman Jacobs Hopes NY Republicans Remain Steadfast in Disavowing Donald Trump

"In a surprise to absolutely no one, the most inept, hateful, and divisive President in American history has announced his intention to run for President in 2024.  Throughout the last year, a majority of NY Republicans have either publicly repudiated or disassociated themselves from the same person, who:  mocked a reporter with physical limitations; bragged about personal misogynistic tendencies; labeled Hispanic and Muslim countries as ‘s***-h***s; categorized those participating in a White Supremacy rally as “good people”; ominously stated that American Jews need to “get their act together” before “it is too late”; implicitly blamed COVID on Asian Americans by referring to it as the “Kung-Flu”; and classified Black District Attorneys as ‘racist’ for having the audacity to uphold the rule of law.  There is an abundance of data that demonstrates this vile rhetoric had tragic, real-life consequences.  The starkest statistic: Counties that held a Trump rally in 2016 saw a 226% increase in hate crimes.

For the sake of our State and Country, it is our hope these same NY Republican officials remain steadfast in disavowing such a derogatory and derisive man who is culpable for inflicting so much pain on so many.  As the saying goes “Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me”.
