In New Questionnaire, Zeldin Commits to Denying Funding to Planned Parenthood, Banning Abortion without Exceptions

New York, NY - In a new questionnaire, New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin doubled down on his far-right, anti-abortion agenda that will severely restrict New Yorkers’ ability to make their own health decisions and access to reproductive health care.

According to a newly released Long Island Coalition for Life questionnaire, Zeldin answered “yes” to denying taxpayer funding for abortion, denying funding for Planned Parenthood, affirming his belief that life starts at conception, and would vote for legislation to “protect human life from conception to natural death.”

ICYMI: Buffalo News Editorial: “Zeldin’s defense of his vote on electors ignores the fact of a violent insurrection”

New York, NY - A new Buffalo News editorial slammed Lee Zeldin for his recent attempts to explain his way out of casting his “indefensible” January 6th vote against certifying the 2020 presidential election results.

The editorial criticized Zeldin for putting Trump’s interests first instead of taking a stand for what was best for the country, as some of his Republican colleagues did: “Unlike Zeldin, Jacobs and 145 other Republicans, [Senator Kelly Loeffler] understood the stakes” of what had happened at the Capitol and decided not to object to the results. “Zeldin didn’t buy it and, given his continuing defense of that vote, still doesn’t. But then, he had something to lose if he crossed Trump.” Loeffler, who’d lost her election, “was liberated from Trump’s cravings for retribution. Zeldin was not and is not, as his painful excuses for an intolerable vote make plain.”

Zeldin Votes Against Bipartisan Measure to Protect Election Integrity

New York, NY - Lee Zeldin continued his dangerous record of thwarting election integrity by opposing the bipartisan Presidential Election Reform Act this week. Time and time again, Lee Zeldin has shown that he is willing to erode the electoral system, from spreading baseless lies about the integrity of the 2020 presidential election to refusing to certify those election results. Zeldin’s vote this week is yet another item on his laundry list of extreme, anti-democratic actions.

On Wednesday, the House voted to overhaul the Electoral Count Act, which outlines Congress’s counting of the electoral votes cast by the states. This was a largely ceremonial process until January 6, 2021, when Donald Trump and allies like Lee Zeldin attempted to use the Act as a means for throwing out legitimate electoral votes. The reforms include a higher threshold for objections from Congress to certifying a state’s electoral votes by requiring that at least one-third of the House and Senate sign on to such a challenge, a significantly higher threshold than previously required. Updates to the Electoral Count Act aim to curb future attempts by Members of Congress to subvert the democratic process.

ICYMI: Far-Right Extremist Group Long Island Loud Majority Relocates HQ After Previous Landlord Refused to Back Zeldin

NEW YORK, NY - Long Island Loud Majority (LILM), an anti-government extremist group that attended the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, packed their bags and moved to a new headquarters in Deer Park, where they will be hosting a grand opening this weekend. In a nod to their close friend and ally, Lee Zeldin, the extremist group relocated after the owner of their former HQ refused to support the Republican nominee in the primary.

The Long Island Loud Majority has stumped for Zeldin for more than a year and in return, Zeldin supported and legitimized the extremist group even after they were labeled an anti-government group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Since then, Zeldin and LILM members have stood in lock step together. One of LILM’s co-founders, Kevin Smith, was paid to collect signatures to get Zeldin on a third-party line—an effort that landed his campaign in hot water after it was revealed that more than 11,000 signatures had been fraudulently photocopied and submitted.
